Friday Morning News and Commentaries
UN welcomes the resignation of Maliki from office
UNSC Secretary General Moon welcomed Maliki's decision to step down and to pledge support for his successor, Abadi...Moon added he is looking forward to a swift transition.
Peshmerga: Washington intends to build a military airport in Kurdistan
It would seem that our US "advisors" went out to the troubled area that IS had formerly been holding people hostage on top of Mount Sinjar....their intent was two-fold....scope out the threats in the area and aid in the rescue of these hostages who were being persecuted by IS on a routine basis....it seems the US air strikes have been effective in eliminating much of the threat or causing the threats to vacate much of the area, providing a path to safety for these folks.....of course no US forces were used in any combat roles.
Sistani calls blocs to cooperate with al-Abadi: the current circumstances necessitated a change positions
The cleric Sistani is calling upon the individual blocs to be cooperative in getting the new government ministers established and in addressing any mistakes that the previous government had made.....do they have enough blue ink to list all those issues....he is looking for the new government to "do right by the Iraqi people."
Expert Strategy: Maliki will attend the next meeting of the National Alliance
Maliki is expected to attend the next meeting of the National Alliance just as other members from his party will be doing....just a common man....now.....it was also mentioned in this article that Abadi will be naming his ministers in "record time"....is that record Iraqi time....or something that will set the world on fire....we shall watch for this of course.
Abadi: our government will focus on the fight against financial and administrative corruption
Abadi is starting to make promises in his new role as PM....along with issues of security and stability....he is saying that he intends to see a focus given to fighting corruption on the financial and administrative levels as well...he also will be working at the same time to reduce the number of ministers that he feels are necessary to effectively run the government's business.
Inventory Khalifa al-Abadi smiling
Because of Abadi's new appointment as Prime Minister he leaves a vacancy in Parliament....the role of First Deputy to the Speaker of Parliament that must be filled....and they are focusing on either al-Shahrastani or Hamoudi for the position....further work on this effort may be on hold until Abadi and his ministers are approved by Parliament.
Washington: the withdrawal of al-Maliki from power will increase the size of the American military aid to Iraq
The fact that Maliki has stated he is stepping away peacefully should clear some of the air regarding military aid from the US to Iraq...but some say the future still will be rocky for the Iraqis in how they deal with terrorists found in their country....the US remains committed to Iraq and its people....though they sometimes in recent past have had funny ways of showing that commitment....at this point there is some concern that Abadi may be closely linked to Maliki....sounds like a bunch of "huff" IMO....an "out" if you will for not providing military aid....worth keeping an eye on for now....at least there is hope now.
Austria confirms its support for Kurdistan and Barzani asked support for the displaced
As part of continuing support from European nations towards Kurdistan....Austria has committed their support and at the same time Barzani is asking them for support as well for the many thousands of displaced Iraqi's now found within the Kurdistan.
International Parliament stands ready to support the next Iraqi government
The International Parliament (United Nations) and its representative within Iraq is wishing Abadi well and at the same time thanking Maliki for stepping down peacefully....they are ready to support the next government...especially in the area of fighting terrorism.
Maliki to leave the family to Beirut
In the recent days Lebanese officials at the Beirut airport have reported a number of Maliki's family showing up with large loads of bags....reporting that Maliki's family and his son apparently have left for Beirut several days ago.
Political leaders held a meeting this evening to initiate the formation of new government
Political bloc leaders are meeting this evening to set up a committee to receive the names that Abadi may be submitting to Parliament for approval....this sounds like an effort of unity....one that the National Alliance is supporting and promoting....something that has been lacking from the previous Parliament.....this also appears to be an effort to speed the process up as well.
Alfalh: Maliki submitted his resignation as prime minister nine months ago
So...allegedly Maliki submitted his resignation to the Dawa party 9 months ago but it was rejected at the time....due to the ongoing crisis....a crisis that he largely created....Maliki was supposedly not interested in power....I have some prime Montana beach front property for sale too....some news just makes you want to barf.
Reform: Abadi will form his government before the end of the constitutional period
Regardless of what any political hack says....Abadi will get his government formed....when he gets it formed....it does seem as though he is trying to fast-track things to get it done before the 30 day deadline....but still...as Yogi Berra said, "It ain't over till it's over."....the good thing is that it appears Abadi is now getting support from all fronts and blocs around him.
Bookmark calls on parliament to cooperate with the Prime Minister-designate and develop plans to address the displaced file
Once again it is being reiterated that Parliament blocs are being encouraged to cooperate with Abadi and get appropriate plans developed and put in place to avoid past mistakes and to attempt to not harm innocent citizens....Iraq and its government needs to be poised and prepared to go to work against terrorism and to deal effectively with displaced citizens, while resolving issues with politics and security across the country.
Abadi works to reduce the ministries to relieve pressure on the operating budget
As mentioned earlier, Abadi is working to streamline his ministers in order to remove some pressures on the operating budget for Iraq....remember this man has been intimately involved in the Financial arena of the country and should know and understand where some belly fat can be cut.
Peshmerga: Washington intends to build a military airport in Kurdistan
More things that seem to revolve around "interesting timing".....when the US has shied away from doing anything militarily with the Kurds or in the Kurdistan now this announcement of a military airport in the Kurdistan....and even giving arms directly to the Peshmerga in the region....the times....they are a changing.
Refugees 1 million dinars for each family in the first place financial assistance
So some of the displaced refugees located in the Kurd region are receiving Turkish funds and now are also set to receive 1 million IQD per family....in the way of humanitarian aid.
Americans threatened ..amaliki stepped down without guarantees and preparations to sue him!
The American political rhetoric surrounding Maliki's stepping down and how much pressure was actually exerted on Maliki to do so by any US entity is really funny in my mind....no we had nothing to do with his decision....but we sure did want to see a new government seated in a peaceful and unified manner...but no....we had no dog in this fight....only the Iraqis were the interested party here.....as far as guarantees....it seems that time had run out for Maliki in this arena...but it still remains to be seen just how much protection he and his cronies end up with....or will they just be allowed to escape the country and find soft comfy places to live for the future.....as was evidenced yesterday some birds are already flying out of Iraq.
Khatib F Fallujah demanding the trial of al-Maliki
There is building a long list, a very long list of demands for Maliki to be tried it would appear....the list grows with each day...of what it contains and who is jumping on the bandwagon to keep it rolling forward....can this be stopped....will this be stopped....will Maliki be allowed exile....or will he stand trial....interesting times are ahead it appears.
The 84-year-old Islamic cleric shaking up Iraq’s political world
When the Iraqi cleric Sistani speaks....it is becoming apparent that people stop and listen...especially political types....as has been evidenced in his efforts to oust Maliki from power and work towards a more unified government for Iraqi futures....he was even instrumental in the speech given yesterday by Maliki in stepping down from PM....this man may be 84....but he carries a boatload of power within Iraq.
A senior source: Al-Maliki did not get the promised explicitly to assume the position of Vice President of the Republic
Is it a shock to anyone that Malik may not end up with any political position once the dustballs have all found a corner to congregate in.....his attitude and past history seem to prove that he may just not be worthy of keeping around....politically speaking....but stranger things have happened....and I will reserve further comment on this until we can see more clearly.
Financial expert reduces fears of Iraq's oil exports drop
The oil ministry is reporting they are apparently losing around $200 million dollars a month due to security issues in some provinces that have slowed or stopped oil production....it was reiterated from previous days that Iraqi reserves of cash stand at 8 trillion 800 billion dinars....enough reserves for maybe one month....if the oil production can be kept up.....it will provide enough monthly revenue to keep the country afloat for the remainder of 2014.....afloat....but just barely.....so would an IR help.....why not test the waters and find out.
Leader of the National Alliance: the coming days will reveal the end of one-party control of power in Iraq
The Leader of the National Alliance is saying we are seeing the death of the "one party" control in Iraq....that is a good thing in my book.....and the time is overripe for it...are they out of the woods yet....no not by a long shot...they are talking a good game for now....but talk is cheap and they must must must followup with good decisive actions that prove they can run things with unity and justice for all Iraqis not just focused on any one group.
Iraqi center for the management of diversity: we have to give Abadi chance of complete success and the solution in co-existence among Iraqis
I just said they must not only talk the talk...but prove they can walk the walk.....there is much weight upon Abadi's shoulders today....but he is a smart man and understands how to delegate and to look for ways to create unity where there was none in the past....the same is to be said for the President of the Republic.....I see these two working together towards a unified Iraq as none have seen in decades....if ever.....just give Abadi time and room to operate and allow himself to be proven....then see how differently Iraq looks and operates in the international arena.....yes the international arena....that is where they desire to operate....not as some third world entity....but as a leader...let's hope they have put together a Super Bowl team of leaders capable of inspiring their team to the greatest of victories.
Vice Kurdistan confirms optimism Balebadi Kurdish street and call him to release the salaries of the staff of the provincial
Can a good faith effort be forthcoming for the employees of the Kurdistan region....will they get the clearance to get paid....will this show of faith from Baghdad be pushed forward....pray this is so...pray that the Kurds are treated vastly different with this newly forming government than they have in years....they are deserving....but they too must be willing to negotiate with Baghdad effectively on all levels....time will tell what actions are being teed up by Baghdad and the Kurds.
Iraqi Sunnis lay out conditional offer to join unity government
Many eyes are focused on Abadi now that Maliki is fading....may Sunni eyes are upon him to watch and witness how they perceive his support of their tribesmen and their plight from the past.....they want and expect change from Abadi....will they see it.....many tribal leaders are saying they are willing at this time to work with Abadi and to me that sounds like a very good start of things.....time will help to heal the past.....and pave ways for a vastly improved future for all involved....change is never a quick process...and it comes with hills and valleys....it has curves and straight-aways that can all be treacherous....but it can be good.
Vacate its offices within hours .. Iraq without Maliki!
Maliki vows to vacate his offices within 24 hours to allow talks of formation of the new government to continue to move forward....
just a caution here....he may be vacating an office.....and he says he is stepping down.....but I do not believe it is yet time to say he is out of power.....
Abadi needs to get his ministers chosen and approved.....THEN we can bid goodbye to Maliki formally at that time.
Taking a break....quite a bit of news for a Holy day in Iraq.....maybe more later.
