Friday News and Commentaries
Good Friday Morning Family, what will the news bring us today on their Holy Day? Well let's jump right in and see what we can find.....for a Holy Day the Iraqi's do appear to be somewhat active today.
Interior Minister leads the first process him after his accession to office to cleanse the rock cliff
The new Interior Minister, Ghaban, is getting started on the right foot it sounds like....going after DAASH elements in the province of Babylon....on the surface he seems to be a "get involved" kind of leader.....something I think the Iraqis need at this point.
America: Iraqi political situation and the weather delay a ground offensive against "Daash"
The US Central Command has noted that weather and training issues may hold things up in Iraq for a while as well as arming of Iraqi soldiers needing to take the fight to the terrorists that have invaded their country....they are not anticipating years of training to get the forces to the point where they will be capable of retaking key cities like Mosul....not many details were divulged at this time of the expected actions by American advisors....finally someone is acting with a high degree of concern for the mission at stake and not divulging key plans of the military to the enemy as other certain politicians and leaders have been prone to do in the past.
Military forces inside the center on the rock cliff
Another military article that seems to convey that the Ministers of Defense and Interior are working together in at least one area, the Babylon province, to rout out DAASH terrorists, killing at least 60 in the hills north of Hilla....this is an area about 100 km south of Baghdad.....IMO....this is a key effort on the parts of the Defense and Interior Ministries showing solidarity to the Iraqi people in going after and achieving success in removing terrorist threats from their home fronts.
France: We destroyed the arsenal of weapons belonging to the Daash in Iraq
Evidence of even French success in the air against DAASH in Iraq by destroying at least 12 buildings in Iraq that were believed to be arsenals holding many weapons for the terrorists....as opposed to empty buildings that others have targeted.....notice too there was no...preannouncement of the air strike....hmmm.
Jubouri: the relationship with Kuwait exceeded the page on the past .. not only the security of the state, however, to limit arms
President of the Iraqi Parliament, Jubouri, paid a visit to leaders in Kuwait, striving to improve relationships between the two neighboring countries....he believes that good strides were made between both for going forward....an invite was extended to the Kuwait President to visit the Iraqi Parliament at some point in the future....it looks like committees will be established between members of the Iraqi Parliament and their equivalent in Kuwait, the National Assembly to work through any bilateral issues....Jubouri attempted to assure the Kuwaiti's and Arab people in general that the Iraqis are united in the face of terrorist activities known to be active within their country....that as one voice united they will be moving forward with security and stability as their aim for Iraq and the region....Jobouri looks for the restoration of the Iraqi army in a correct manner following the obvious failed attempts of former leadership.
Barzani calls for the United States to arm and train the Peshmerga
A US Congressional delegation led by Daryl Issa was in Iraq speaking specifically with the Kurds regarding the arming of the Peshmerga....Barzani offered to the delegation that if the Peshmerga was to continue fighting the terrorists within their region and in Iraq, they would require continued supplies of arms and ammunition to take the fight to the terrorists.
American officials: the Iraqi army has lost much of its effectiveness in the era of al-Maliki
It is sad to see the condition the American advisors are finding the Iraqi Army in today....after leaving them so well trained just a few years ago....talk about going to the dogs.....we never should have completely left....big mistake....today the Iraqis are capable of small attacks against concentrated forces of terrorists...but will require further training in order to launch a major offensive against terrorism across their country....US air strikes are limited within Iraq at the moment largely due to lack of ground support at this time.
Karbala Chamber of Commerce organize training courses for businessmen
The Karbala Chamber of Commerce is dedicated at this time to organizing training courses for local businessmen that will assist them in meeting their business needs and further developing business skills....further signs of stability within Iraq....even when budget issues remain uncertain for 2014.
Kurdistan: Kuwait is ready to turn off Iraq's debts and help the displaced
An Iraqi member of Parliament spoke out after taking part in a recent visit to Kuwait by a Parliament delegation.....the Kuwaitis seem interested in putting aside the remained of what the UN says is owed to Kuwait due to the Iraqi 1990 invasion....but says that issues within the UNSC hinder such action at this time.....the Kuwaitis are wanting to help with those who are displaced within Iraq ahead of winter months....they are proposing allowing Kuwaiti companies to invest within Iraq rather than taking the payments that remain from Iraq, something between 4 and 6 billion dollars.....IMO...the Kuwaitis aren't dumb...they can see that an investment within Iraq today, if allowed, would pay them far more dividends in the long run than what they will receive in payments from the UNSC.
Parliamentary Finance plans to host the Minister of Finance to discuss the increase in the salaries of employees
Yet another announcement of an upcoming meeting between the Minister of Finance, Zebari, and the Parliament Finance committee designed to discuss potential increases in employee salaries that would be retroactive back to the beginning of 2014....but the impending issues with oil prices and lack of approval of the 2014 budget hang as great hinderances to such action at this point.
Moussawi likely cancel the legislative recess of Parliament
A prominent leader of the Citizen bloc is saying that it will be likely that next month's scheduled Parliament recess will be canceled in order to deal with important laws that require attention....most importantly the budget for 2014....watch for more on this Family and see if they do indeed follow through with such proactive action.
Iraqi leaders on track for cooperation
Excellent article that talks of the cooperation that is building between Abadi, Massoum, and Jobouri.....a cooperation that was actually present from the start with the three Iraqi leaders.....there are strong hopes that this is the birth of a new era of cooperation within Iraq that has been missing for a number of years.....a cooperation that will see Iraq emerge as a greater world leader and entity.....but they have a long way to go and the road will be quite bumpy along the way.....no the tasks will not be easy....but by having the three prime leaders of Iraq marching together is a huge start for their new future.
Quick break for now.....interesting news this morning....nothing too earth shaking but interesting none the less.....look for more through the weekend as we move closer to the 26th and the impending reopening of the ISX and what that could be bringing to Iraqis and the world. Aloha Randy
