Monday Morning News Summaries and Commentaries
Well Family, I believe I can promise you that this may very well develop into a Monday like no other.....Maliki has dug in and seems poised for a military coup if he does not get his way....meanwhile early morning scanning tells me that Abadi has nodded his head in acceptance as a nominee for Prime Minister....the US is pushing totally against Maliki now....and the Lions won yesterday......wonder if Frank will catch that.....keep an eye on Maliki.....more so now than ever before.
Central bank: we have maintained the stability of the currency despite the instability in the markets
What better lead off story than from the CBI and Governor Turki this morning.....he insists that despite the turmoil witnessed in the markets in recent days and the ongoing security issues around the country the CBI has maintained strong stability with the currency at the same time....he says the bank attempts to work equally with private banks and government banks alike....Turki is going a good job of showing strength for the CBI during all the upside down issues that Iraq is experiencing
National Alliance Abadi officially nominate for prime minister
The National Alliance has finally scrounged around in the hat and found a name...that of Haider Abadi as their candidate for Prime Minister....now the question will be fought I am sure as to whether this nomination can be upheld....or is it to be thrown out....did it come in after the deadline....or was even the extension of the deadline legal.....questions that I am sure will get much mileage today in the Iraqi press.
Nice Mustafa Amin: News, which aired on the satellite regarded as the largest bloc of state law (if it is true) it is a major disadvantage to the Iraqi judiciary
This article mentions that there was a satellite broadcast on one of the channels of the Prime Minister....so that tells me to tune this out....it will be laden heavily in support of Maliki or it otherwise would not have been allowed to be aired through his network system....move on to other articles that I know from peeking are coming up shortly.
National Alliance candidate Haidar al-Abbadi for prime minister and Ktlta Ameri .. and refuse to sign Alkhozai
Sounds like the National Alliance bloc is singing "Happy Days are Hear Again" as they nominate Abadi as their choice for Prime Minister.
Sources: Maliki put pressure on the Federal Court to declare the biggest bloc coalition
Honestly, does this surprise anyone.....I thought not....Maliki will go to any depth and stoop to any low to ensure he stays entrenched as Prime Minister....for a variety of reasons....he has tasted the power and is thirsty....and he knows as soon as he steps away from the protective umbrella his goose is cooked.....is there any wonder why the people of Iraq do not want any more of this character in their midst.....I pray that those in power who have the authority will stand up to him and declare a new Prime Minister for Iraq....one that can at least make an attempt at unifying the country from east to west....from north to south.
Alusi: Maliki's speech "a military coup coward" has been preparing since last week
It is being alleged that Maliki is threatening everyone....and I mean everyone....even members of his own army if they threaten to go against his wishes.....his threats are seen by some as the acts of a coward.....I would say they are the last efforts of a poor leader who has shown no reason for the people to believe in his abilities any longer.....I'm thinking that he needs to be careful who he threatens next.....there has been a shift of support away from his government to that of the newly elected government, especially behind President Massoum....and some of that shift, could carry a mighty stick....mightier than what Maliki thinks he has at his disposal....and pinpoint accuracy as well....praying it does not come to that.
American pressure to resolve the constitutional crisis, the end of the periods and the prime ministerial candidate
Apparently US Ambassador to Iraq Steven Beecroft has been putting a certain degree of pressure upon political blocs to stand with the National Alliance in naming a PM candidate....allegedly American Embassy files are prepped to be used against Maliki should that become necessary....now that sounds like something interesting....they say not to worry about Maliki at this point....I have some thoughts but will not put them here at this point.....just sounds like the US Embassy may own the right fitting leash and muzzle for a former PM.
Federal Court did not issue any new decision on the designation of the biggest bloc
I knew this article was coming....the Federal Court has sent a letter to President of the Republic Massoum that indicates the court's interpretation today is the same as it was in 2010, nothing has changed.....this would appear to indicate that bloc would be National Alliance....who today has said their candidate is Abadi.....there are also reports that claim conflicting information from the Federal Court.....just remember one side of those reports also state that Maliki was responsible for pressuring the Court for a decision....is this akin to holding a gun to the head, or a sword to the neck and asking for a decision.....hoping here that the strength of justice shall prevail.
Alliance ending dreams Abadi al-Maliki's nomination as his successor and infallible assigned to form a government
At least some Shiite dreams come to an end with the naming of Abadi as NA candidate for Prime Minister......it is to be expected that President Massoum will be happy with this choice as it is not Maliki being put forth.....will we see any action by the President today in this light.....it should be an interesting Monday.
Kurds Warn Iraqi Prime Maliki
Now the Kurds come forward to press against Maliki....you yourself have violated the Constitution by even considering to run again.....how dare you accuse our Kurd Faud Massoum as someone who violates the Iraqi Constitution....look first in the mirror....the Kurds are watchful in and around Baghdad for signs of an illegal coup.....they are wise to be so diligent in their security measures at this point in time.
Washington: the statements of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki worrying
While the stance from Washington is that they find Maliki's challenges and statements worrying....they do not see actions being taken by the Iraqi Army in Baghdad and in the Green Zone specifically as anything but normal measures to protect government buildings.....hope they do not end up eating those words.
Maliki digs in as U.S. pushes for new Iraqi government
Since Maliki's speech on Monday night he has been warned by Sec of State Kerry to not resort to force or "stir the waters" now that would sure put the fear into Maliki....Kerry goes on to say there should be no introduction of force, no need for troops into this moment of change for democracies sake.....again we wait and see what those troops will be used for that have been called into the Green Zone.....legal wrangling continues to a point...but the National Alliance has announced their candidate for PM, that is Abadi....now what remains are the instructions that must come forth for Abadi to form a new government and be approved by Parliament....but in all this Maliki still remains a dark cloak that must be dealt with in some manner, locally or internationally.....and by making this nomination....will there be a reduction....a serious reduction in violence throughout Iraq.....or will Maliki stir that pot and turn from PM to terrorist leader....or will he simply fade away.
Western military analysts: security reinforcements Maliki in Baghdad was in preparation for a military coup
Former western military leaders see the buildup of security and troops, especially elite troops within the Green Zone as something more than just protection for government buildings and diplomatic missions....they have concern for a coup of some type stemming from Maliki as a result of another nomination being put forward for the office he has now held for 8 years....it might be believable that building protection and the safety of people are the concern...but the words of Maliki himself hang heavy in the air....."opening the gates of hell" sound like a threat to me....if he doesn't get his way.....these troops deserve to be watched extremely closely by all involved in the area and in the political matters.
Jaafari's office: infallible Abadi officially commissioned and convey it in a press conference
President of the Republic, Massoum, has indeed charged the National Alliance candidate to form a new government....so it would seem the 30 day clock began ticking today Monday, August 8, 2014.
After his nomination for prime minister ..alebadi calls for Maliki to step down
After being nominated by the National Alliance....Abadi has asked that Maliki step down as Prime Minister.....I'm sure that Maliki failed to read that tweet.
Maliki disturbed by assigning Abadi did not authorize anyone to sign up for a coalition of state law
Maliki disturbed....you think so.....really we had better check on that.....so he thinks because "he" didn't authorize anyone to put their hat in the ring that he can automatically reject a candidate....just out of hand.....good grief Charlie Brown....I will say this again....WATCH THIS SNAKE IN THE GRASS....watch him very carefully....I don't give a rip what John Kerry says about this man or what he thinks is going on over there....watch this man and keep a shovel or shotgun handy because he WILL IMO....rear his ugly head...very soon.....as Frank said....UGLY is HERE!!!
A security alert in Baghdad after commissioning Abadi form the next government
From this article it is a bit unclear as to who is calling the security shots within Baghdad at the moment....is this stemming from Maliki....if so watch your step....might be wise to stay off the streets.....if this is being generated by President Massoum...then maybe things are looking up.....regardless right now the streets of Baghdad, especially those within the Green Zone may not be as safe as they appear.....might depend on your party affiliation as well.
Haydar al-Abbadi Is the New Iraq PM Candidate
In the end it seems that many abandoned ship with Maliki....leaving him with only a handful of Parliament supporters....so now let peace begin as a new government is being formed and seated in the coming hours and days.
Mehdi al-Hafez calls for the adoption of a special budget for the remainder of the current year
The committee charged with reviewing the 2014 budget has come up with a plan.....a special budget that will get Iraq through the remainder of the year.....I say....more power to them if they can "quickly" devise a workable plan for going forward....after all, the past 7 months are just that...the past....keep looking ahead and try and put this nightmare of a year behind you.
Maliki 'forced out' as Iraq's prime minister
Several things about this article that make me feel good...and a couple of things that make me shake my head....first of all it says that the "new Prime Minister" swiftly called upon Iraqi's to unite......he is accepting this role and moving forward...immediately.....and decisively....and unafraid of Maliki at this point.....good....secondly President Massoum is openly accepting this nomination of Abadi as Prime Minister in front of all Iraqis....another good sign....now I'm just left shaking my head at Kerry's words....any move on Maliki's part to circumvent political processes will end international aid....as if that is a smart thing to do for a country that is obviously trying to get back on its feet.....you don't threaten to stop aid because a rogue individual seeks to command victory in his own way.....you make every effort to contain that individual.....not punish the country for the "snake".....cut off the head and the issue goes away....put it in a gunny sack and tie the opening tight....it is rendered harmless until it can be disposed of.....do not penalize the country though....it is no longer their dog in the in the fight.....and I shake my head at Maliki being allowed to roam freely at this point.....watch this snake's every move today and in the days to come....I fear we have not heard the last from him.
Maliki is leading a military coup was imminent very
Maliki to lead a coup....an imminent coup....no this can't be....after all Washington has said that those elite forces within the Green Zone that have government buildings under "protection" are only there for the protection of the people who work in them.....there is beach front property in Oklahoma that is for sale too.....sorry but call me an unbeliever at this point in time....I would not be surprised to see Iraq....especially Baghdad to suddenly go black.....a telecommunications black out brought on by Maliki.....I keep seeing images of Hitler's Night of Long Knives' Purge being played in my mind all over again.
US Begins Direct Arms Supplies to Iraqi Kurds
An interesting move on the part of the US....all about timing I would presume.....with the announcement of Abadi as the new Prime Minister....this coming only hours later......hmmmmm.....
there is something wishy-washy going on here....is it legal to supply arms to the Kurds....or not....who is putting their neck out here.
Taking a break for now....you get the gist of the news and goings on tho in Iraq.....not as bloody as I thought we might wake up to this morning....but it isn't over in my opinion either.
