Thursday Morning News Summaries

Chalabi: We have 210 seats and will be agreed on the three presidencies soon!!

The MP Chalabi of the Citizen coalition has stated on Facebook that their bloc now has 210 seats secured and will soon be announcing the three presidencies (President of Iraq, Speaker of Parliament, Prime Minister)....and everyone believes everything that is written on Facebook....right....well when there is a formal announcement we shall see who is at the top of the heap on that day.

Uniting announce the names of its negotiating formally

The United bloc has formed a negotiating committee...seems they could be a day late if they are just now starting to negotiate with anyone....meanwhile they move forward with putting their negotiations and demands in front of other blocs to determine where interests may lie.
....
Deputy: More than 200 deputies refuse to renew the mandate of Maliki

This is worth perking your ears up to....Hakim leader of the Islamic Supreme Council is stating that more than 200 of the 328 Parliament members are saying they refuse to renew the mandate of Maliki as PM....maybe they are warming up to Maliki's swan song....and it seems the last couple of days has portrayed fewer and fewer articles from M himself.....are the private jet engines warming up on the tarmac...destination....London.

Parliamentary Security: Daash industry, "a Saudi national Turkish" and possessed weapons of Israeli

The Parliament Committee on Security and Defense is stating that some terrorists are being captured with Israeli made sophisticated weapons....apparently it is believed they are obtaining them through Syria and Turkey.....accusing Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey of funding the terrorists who seem bent on disrupting the political process within Iraq....apparently they have proof that these countries are supporting the terrorists. How this will be dealt with when the new government is seated will be interesting.

Othman calls not to repeat mechanism of forming 2010 government in forming current one

An MP of the Kurdistan Alliance gives a warning to others to not follow the mechanism used in 2010 to form the new government this time in 2014....he said there should be a strong partnership of the government but at the same time a strong opposition as well....sounds like two sides of a house divided to me.

The National Coalition holds a meeting on next Saturday

The National coalition will be meeting on Saturday to discuss subjects pertaining to the formation of the new government but they also admit that naming a new candidate for PM is not that pressing....one wonders what they do consider important....perhaps they have seats for sale to the highest bidder.

MP: National Forces Union intensify contacts and other blocs will join it soon

The National Forces Union has more than 45 seats....seems a small group considering what we've heard from others...but it is just this kind of group that Maliki is probably trying to find to gather under his wing....a little here....a little there....but is the mountain insurmountable for him at this point based on what we are reading from other articles....I personally do not count Maliki out of the fight just yet.....when his type grows silent....it is time to gather your "seats" closely and pay attention to details.

Kurdistan region: extracting and exporting oil happen with Baghdad's knowledge

The head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Kurdistan region states that what they have been doing with regards to oil production and exports has been done with Baghdad's knowledge....it is their belief and understanding they are following the intent of the Iraqi Constitution...that it has been Baghdad who has been creating problems and issues....can you say hard headed....Maliki still sees and believes what they are doing as theft of Iraqi oil.

Zebari meets with Algerian Prime Minster

Foreign Minister Zebari met with the Algerian PM and discussed a number of topics that they both believe are convergent issues for their respective countries....sounds like they basically agreed to have future meetings with both sides visiting the other.

MP: Foreign intervention will have an impact on the formation of the next government and prime minister

An MP with the Sadr movement is saying that foreign intervention in Iraq will have an impact on the formation of the next government....that could cause a lengthy delay....this includes the US but also encompasses many of the surrounding countries as well....this MP believes that some of the hold up stems from each major bloc having their own set agenda and candidate for PM and appear to be mostly unwilling to negotiate from their stance.

Tariq Harb: Cancel U.S. Decree to protect Iraqi funds will not affect the money

An Iraqi legal expert does not believe the cancellation of the immunity for Iraqi funds in the US will affect the money in any adverse manner.....he goes on to state a number of reasons for his stance.....there have been payments made in the US in 2011 to the tune of $400 million dollars in exchange for dropping all lawsuits and nothing has presented itself after this....there is money held outside of the US which the UNSC had been protecting while Iraq was under CH VII....since that has been rescinded again no claims have been forthcoming....the CBI will manage the oil money now and the US FED considers this money being given back to the CBI not the Iraqi government...Iraq will continue to pay 5% of oil revenues to Kuwait until that debt is brought to zero...sometime in mid 2015....they believe that all other serious debt negotiations have been dealt with at this time.

Gulf Commercial Bank plans next month to raise its capital from 250 billion to 300 billion dinars

Another bank raising their capital yet again....this time Gulf Commercial Bank is announcing it intends to raise it's capital during the month of June from 250 to 300 billion dinars.

Eco Iran opens a factory to assemble cars in Iraq

A new car line from Iran will begin assembly of some of their car models in Iraq to be sold in Iraq....they intend on production of 1,500 cars per month or 20,000 per year....another assembly plant for cars was announced back in March for what will become the worlds largest assembly facility when completed in Iraq.

Nassif: the region does not recognize the Iraqi courts and difficult to sue

This is more of the push and shove we have come to know and be familiar with between Baghdad and the Kurds....this time though it is a State of Law MP who is standing up and claiming the government can't afford to be suing the Kurds when the Kurds don't seem to recognize the largely Iraqi led court system. It doesn't really matter who can or cannot sue....the bottom line continues to be the issue over oil with the Kurds....neither side appears to be close to budging or any kind of reconciliation at this point.

Expert calls to open up to the world to address the legacy of the former regime, financial and parliamentary Mtminan for the safety of Iraqi funds abroad

Here is an article made all the more prominent by the appearance of Dr. Mohammed Saleh who offers up his opinions regarding the withdrawal of immunity for the DFI funds deposited in the US.....he believes there could be countries, companies, and even persons who may come after some or all of this money....making claims be they real or false...and wonders what protections Iraq has in place to provide a stopgap for such action. On the other hand a number of other experts within the government are insisting they have taken the appropriate legal and financial actions to adequately protect the funds at this time......this has me wondering if the "ambulance chasers" are waiting like snakes in the grass, knowing or suspecting that Iraq is about to revalue its currency and waiting on more lucrative prey they see on the horizon....JMO.

KRG: Baghdad was aware of plans for Kurdish oil sale

Everyone has an opinion and there has been no lack of them being published....the head of the Kurd Department of Foreign Affairs is saying that what the Kurds have done is constitutional and that Baghdad knew all about the process from the beginning.....maybe they knew....but it sure seems apparent they didn't approve....he claims that a number of independent international legal firms back up their actions as being legal....meanwhile they will continue with their exports...and they say their doors are open for discussion to reach a solution with Baghdad....I'm sure at the terms the Kurds offer only.

Calls for expulsion of Kurdish ministers in Baghdad

As stated earlier...opinions are falling from the ceiling everywhere.....now a State of Law MP is making noise that the complete budget for the Kurds should be taken away from them....my question is...what budget? He also says the Kurd MP's should be kicked out of Baghdad to show them how serious Baghdad is concerning the oil export and sales issues. Again my question...just how would this create a problem for the Kurds....they are shipping oil via "their" pipeline to Turkey and in turn selling the oil to whoever is willing to pay....sometimes what is spewed forth doesn't make a great deal of sense. The battle ensues over who is following the Constitution...that seems to be a big issue here.....as the mud continues to be slung.

Surrounded by Opponents, Maliki Faces Uphill Battle for Third Term

Maliki seems to be left standing alone in a field all by his lonesome....that does not mean to say that he is outstanding in the field....far from it....the other major political blocs are being vocal they will not tolerate Maliki being nominated for a third term...for the most part they are all saying he has reneged on all of his former promises, they do not see him as a leader for the future and will be quick to bring forth their own nominees....indeed Maliki is facing an uphill battle at this point.....I still believe he will fight to the end.

Kurdistan Premier: We Will Never Give Up Control of Our Own Oil

President of Kurdistan, Barzani, says that what Baghdad wants with the Kurd oil is not constitutional or legal and the Kurds will never give up what they feel is rightfully theirs....they welcome talks with Baghdad but will not relinquish their oil to them....he states that the Kurds are ok with Baghdad monitoring the export of the oil but the Kurds must remain in control of it.....he vows to find a way to pay their employees as there is no guarantee that Baghdad would not continue to cut the Kurds out of the budget.

Supreme Council: are committed to the decision of Parliament on the mandate of the Prime Minister

The leader of the Islamic Supreme Council, Hakim, has stated that it is the Council's decision to enforce the mandate of only two consecutive terms for what they call the three presidencies (President of Iraq, PM, Speaker of Parliament)....of these three the only one at issue at this time is the PM....it seems that today all roads point to pushing Maliki out of this position....I hope he has a contingency plan in place.....and I still am wary of what he might be doing behind the scenes at the moment...he is very quiet and invisible at the moment.

Will Iraqi elections be decided in Iraq?

There is without a doubt strong motives outside of Iraq that weigh heavily upon the Iraqi political machine....be it from Turkey, Iran, or Saudi Arabia.....they all have a vested interest in the outcome of the Iraqi elections and a finger on the pulse of the Iraqi political arena for their own selfish reasons....and do not exclude the clutches of Washington in the fray either....there still lies yet another vested interest....a definite political football of sorts....it is expected for the Iraqi's to stubbornly push their respective political agendas each being rather bullheaded against the other....with hopes of outside intervention to smooth things over for them.....almost like the principle wading into the playground to resolve a recess ruckus.

Massoud Barzani arrives Rome. Barzani meets with the Pope!

On tour in Europe, the President of the Kurdistan, Barzani, will be meeting with the Pope.....and will meet with Italian dignitaries as well....this comes at the end of his European twirl...where he also met with the French President and senior officials....the article doesn't say it...but I believe he was on a loan finding trip for the Kurds.

The names of the 17 candidates for prime minister of Iraq: Battle of the sons of the Shiite house

So at long last we have a list of contenders who will be competing against Maliki for the prized PM position for Iraq for the next four years....it is quite the list with several recognizable names on it....also some dark horses.....the jostling is about to become very serious I would think....but in the scuffle try and keep one eye focused on Maliki....I'm thinking there may still be more than a rabbit to be pulled from his hat.

Almost a consensus within the National Coalition to exclude al-Maliki for a third term

The opinions are abounding and resounding against considering Maliki for a third term as is evidenced in this article and a consensus taken by the National Coalition.....

at this point one might start to wonder...where will Maliki's strength and support come from.....

don't forget that money has a way of talking.....and making former lines in the sand disappear.
