Specialists expect Iraq to renew the request from Washington to protect Iraqi funds abroad
There has been much available to read about "alleged" actions of the Iraqi's in preparation of the May 22 date when their funds will no longer be protected by the US. Most of what has been read wants us to believe that the Iraqi's will take care of their own funds after the 22nd.
Well now we hear from a member of the Finance Committee that is making noise that today Iraq will seek to have the US extend that protection. Talk about waiting to the last minute....but then again this is Iraq.
The final decision will lie in the hands of the Finance Ministry and the COM.
Even Dr. Mohammed Saleh has weighed in on this issue, pointing to the fact that there is a bit of a double issue here, in that the fund are protected by the US President's order, but they are also protected by the UNSC in order to make reparation payments to Kuwait....on a quarterly basis I believe.....here again is mention of Iraq being lifted from Chapter VII last year on June 27....noting that it does not say a partial lifting....if this is true regarding the desire to continue the protection of their funds....there should be more articles pertaining to this subject today.
Bank Central region: Baghdad and Erbil crisis greatly affected the lives of the citizens living
The CBI, Kurdistan office, is saying that the differences between Baghdad and Erbil are causing great problems for the citizens to stay afloat while on the other hand a financial crisis is also being felt big time by the Kurdistan government.....some trade and investment activities are seen to be helping but they alone just aren't enough to effectively diminish the problem.
Conference on investment in the stock market calls for international financial institutions to cooperate with the Iraqi banks
The recent Conference on Securities that was held in Dubai, calls for annual conferences meant to attract international financial institutions to become more cooperative with Iraqi banks....the conference also suggested that the ISX look at its instructions for investors and make changes or amendments to its means of inviting new investors into the market so as to pave a better way for them.
Minister of Finance: a delegation to Brazil to resolve the issue of outstanding debt
The Minister of Finance confirms that Iraq will be sending a delegation to Brazil to resolve debt issues that the GOI may have with Brazil as it pertains to any Paris Club agreement....seems a little late if this is at all tied to the May 22 date of the US releasing protection of Iraqi DFI funds....it appears that Iraq's stance at this time is the refusal to pay debt other than what was agreed upon through the Paris Club agreement.
Political Parties in Iraq on Collision Course over Third Term For Maliki
The bulls all seem to be in the china closet now.....look for the pushing and shoving to begin in earnest today with the announcement of the voting results from the April 30 elections....the State of Law is laying claims that they, along with Maliki, have swept the elections......but Allawi and others are pointing in a different direction and are making considerable noise to what may seem like a "super" alliance against anything that has Maliki's name attached to it.....Allawi has stated that the Kurds are in agreement that Maliki should not be the choice, as have stated the Sunni's....can they all come together to make this happen though....that is the big question of the day I believe.....Allawi stated too that he is prepared to back Barzani to replace Talabani as Iraqi President....that would be a good move to assure a Kurd remains in a power position in the new government....meanwhile the State of Law coalition continues to push for support of Maliki for a third term as PM.
Trade to discuss proposals to increase fees and charges and fines collected by the ministry as income for state
The Ministry of Commerce is looking for ways to increase fees and charges as well as fines in order to provide additional income for the state.....of course...the government is having trouble staying afloat....so what better way to help itself out than to dream up new ways to tax business and take away their hard earned profits....smh.

Nikolai Miladinov Meets With Hakim
UN representative Milandinov met with Hakim from the Islamic Supreme Council where Hakim made assurances that a new government would be formed that involved all political forces.....though I am slightly concerned over this move by Hakim, just who is giving him the power to make such statements....Milandinov did state that the UN would be supportive of the democratic process within Iraq.
Maliki might not be chosen for a third term
Everyone has an opinion these days.....and even his own coalition, State of Law has a member who was quoted as saying the current PM may not be coming back for a third term.....I still don't believe M has thrown in his beach towel yet....time will tell and today should provide some strong answers...or at least hints of what is to come.

Good Planning Must Underpin Kurdistan Development, Says IKG Property Head
A member of IKG Properties, the head of the office in the Kurdistan in fact, says that the Kurds economy will be largely fueled by oil and gas interests, but that other sectors are starting to move forward....good ideas must be backed by strong planning and the appropriate numbers to key success....the Kurd economy is making strong inroads towards nation building....a good sign for the continued strengthening of their economy....this individual talks about a number of areas that the Kurds are either excelling in or making moves in the right direction....Kurdistan is the place to be within Iraq at the moment it would seem.
Urgent .. National Coalition gets seats in the final results of the elections Baghdad
The National Coalition led by Allawi picks up 10 seats in Parliament according to what they have heard of the final election results....I'm sure there will be considerably more news to come on the election results as we progress thru the day.

Foreign Minister Zebari was present at the opening of the 4th annual Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Shanghai, China.....he stated that the announcement of election results had prevented the PM and others from attending the conference....Iraq though is still keen to sharpen their interaction with the Chinese government.
U.S. reports on Kurdistan as last “biggest” global oil depots
One US drilling firm has confirmed a couple of strong oil deposits being discovered in the Kurdistan....they have 2 wells that will be capable of producing 25,000 barrels of oil per day....and are expecting more....according to a company spokesperson, the Kurdistan could be the last great global oil depots....IMO....that remains to be seen, as so much of Iraq has yet to be charted for potential of oil....it will take time to fully understand the pool that Iraq sits upon.
Urgent .. Commission begins by declaring the results of parliamentary elections
WOW!!! if ever there was a news article ever written that really just took up wasted space this article would be the winner....Commission declares winners...but somehow they managed to leave out the juicy parts of the story....no winners were to be found in the article.

State law is obtained 92 seats in the legislative elections
One article claims that State of Law coalition, Maliki's bunch....has obtained 92 seats in Parliament while another articles cites them as getting 93.
Maliki, the Iraqi people choose to form a majority government
Incredible that the State of Law coalition would outdistance the next bloc by a three to one margin....State of Law garnering 92 seats while the next closest the Liberal coalition only received 31 seats.
The final results show 93 seats for the rule of law and the Sadrists 31 and 29 and the citizen united 23 national and 21 seats, 19 seats and the Kurdistan
Ok, one article says the State of Law coalition receives 92 votes, another says 93, small difference...but the real news to me is that the next closest only received 31 seat, the Sadrists...what is up with that....will there be screaming that the State of Law rigged things? The down side to this is that Maliki is a considerable ways from the 165 seats need to name the government....can the State of Law pick that much up, against so many blocs that are so opposed to Maliki for a third term.....will Maliki attempt to change the laws yet again.
Iraq: Maliki lightness unbearable!
Iraq now stands to face what will be their future for at least the next four years.....will they return Maliki to PM....or will they recognize the unkept promises, the broken promises, the corruption, graft, the severe violence and almost lack of direction on so many issues for Iraq....and demand that their country be led in a different and hopefully better direction. It is true that Maliki is seen as a strong, dictatorial type leader....who will see something beyond that to even think of nominating him for an unprecedented and controversial third term.....there is even the dredging of Shabs ouster from the CBI that has resurfaced as political backlash between Maliki and Shabs....
what remains obvious out of that debacle is Shabs' integrity over that of Maliki....
let us hope the Iraqi people get the opportunity to choose wisely, versus allowing Maliki to change the election laws back to what it was before the 2010 elections.
