Skoddy:
Hi John. I sent the following to a few friends recently to try and express what I am feeling and seeing. I hope this resonates with you and others.
It seemed appropriate to your reference to the band.
LET THE MUSIC PLAY
CRESCENDO - a gradual increase in the loudness of a sound or section of music. The highest or loudest point of something that increases gradually.
We are like a beautiful Stradivarius Violin...... We are being played and being played well by masters.
THEY are playing a world class International Symphonic SCORE and the CRESCENDO will be spectacular. Each one of THEM are playing an instrument specially chosen for THEM.
The stage has been set.
The PLAYERS have been on the stage for some time playing this long drawn out piece.
WE the audience are sitting and waiting for the CRESCENDO, that moment when this entire performance comes to a head.
The piece THEY are performing was written by the COMPOSER a long time ago.
It has been heard a number of times before but this time it is different, it seems almost mesmerizing, holding us the audience in our seats unable to move, unable to hear anything but the SCORE.
The piece started slow, it danced around the orchestra allowing each section to perform its magic, ebbing and flowing through this complex musical SCORE but it is the CRESCENDO that WE are waiting for and each time the music climbs to fever pitch the AUDIENCE looks to the CONDUCTOR to signal in the end, the CRESCENDO.
But the batten falls rhythmically leading the PERFORMERS and AUDIENCE alike through more of the same cleverly written movement, CONDUCTED to seem different while at the same time to seem connected to the rest of the piece.
And the music plays on.
So,
Who are the THEY, THEM, the PERFORMERS?
Who is the CONDUCTOR?
Who is the COMPOSER?
Who are WE, the AUDIENCE?
And, what is the SCORE?
We know the answer to all of those questions but the real question is what will we hear when we finally hear the CRESENDO?
I’m not sure that the CRESCENDO will sound like we are expecting. You see, this score has been well written and like the many scores this COMPOSER has produced, you come to expect the unexpected, the twist, the selfish ending that cares nothing for the audience. This is indulgent to the core….. or perhaps indulgent to the SCORE.
Like the victors get to write the history,
The composer gets to write the SCORE.
