Saturday News Summaries and Commentaries

It is early Saturday and already we are seeing more news about oil, cooperation, 2015 budget, more US intervention in Iraq....and the list will probably continue to grow today. All in all....it is news that is headed in the right direction...the cooperative efforts that we are seeing is a continuation of the promises that Abadi made when he was made PM....following after such a horrendous 8 year reign by his predecessor it will take time to put the cart back on its wheels and get it rolling again in the right direction.

Saleh calls to amend the Banking Act to encourage investment

Dr. Saleh again rises to the forefront and continues to make astute observations about Iraq and it's future from an economic standpoint....he wisely is suggesting amendments to the Banking Act that would allow for greater efforts in the areas of investments....what he's pointing towards would bolster the countries agricultural and industrial sectors outside of the oil and gas sector and would eventually lead to less reliance on oil and gas to prop up their economy.

Abdul-Mahdi: oil production exceeded 3 million barrels per day

Oil Minister Mahdi boasts that the Iraqi oil production....not the exports but production has exceeded 3 million barrels a day....with expectations of higher growth due to the agreements being made between Baghdad and Erbil....then they talk about Kirkuk as if its production has been down.....they fail to say that some of the Kirkuk production has found its way into the Kurd pipeline to Turkey....instead pointing out that Kirkuk oil fields will now be returned to production.....IMO....hardly the case....for whatever reason....Baghdad continues to not give credit to the Kurds for their stellar efforts with oil and gas activities....I say.....Baghdad....get over it...and acknowledge these guys can play with the big boy oil companies as good as you or maybe even better.

Efforts to activate the economic and trade joint committees

The Ministries of Trade and Commerce both see the benefit to cooperative efforts in their respective arenas to further economic resolve that will enhance the trade and commercial activities of Iraq, not only at home, but also abroad in the countries where they have representation....using many of their international attaches scattered around the world to draw up the frameworks of memorandums of understanding with the intent to reignite the Iraqi economy and bring increases to investment projects through renewed opportunities from the international sector.

Oil: the agreement between Baghdad and Erbil is not the beginning of a final comprehensive solutions

Of course the agreements reached this week between Baghdad and the Kurds is not the end anything....but it undoubtedly opens the doors towards the fostering of greater efforts between the two that will lead to just and constitutional outcomes for both parties....this is merely a first step for both that begins the process of rebuilding faith and trust in one another....it should lead to the HCL approval yes...but that remains to be seen...hopefully soon.

Iraqi Oil: Erbil agreement will raise oil production and wait Barzani

I see this as an extremely confusing and conflicting article....with facts from the present interlaced with junk from the past as well.....yes the Oil Minister, Mahdi, did find agreement with the Kurds this week regarding payment of Kurd salaries and the resumption of oil flow from the Kurds to Baghdad to the tune of 150,000 barrels of oil per day....but why bring up or throw up the idea of Baghdad being the sole owner of Iraqi oil and the threat of suit against the Kurds...this is the mixture of old news with good, positive present day news.....unworthy to be in the same article IMO.....what they speak of is from the old government, not the present day government....someone is attempting to mix apples and oranges here and just muddying up the waters.

Joker: 2015 budget will take a long time for approval

I've said this before and will continue to stand on my premise here.....this is one MP who is thrust in front of a microphone or a reporter and provided their own opinion of things to come....what I say to articles like this....bring me the proof.....what constitutes your reasoning for saying that the 2015 budget will take a considerable time for approval...all you point to is politics....well this government is attempting to prove they can operate around the politics and get things done....I believe they will try to do the same thing with the budget....they have a HUGE point to prove....they are better than their predecessors and will go to great lengths to prove it.....so just quiet down with your delay efforts....instead show me the proof.

Chairman of the US Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey up to Iraq

An unannounced visit by General Dempsey.....key timing when the US is getting set to broaden its efforts with both the Iraqi forces and the Kurdistan forces in fighting the terrorist organizations found today in Iraq.

The governor of Salahuddin: We do not need to ground troops and foreign forces were making progress

So they only need and want air strike cover for their efforts.....what efforts have they truly made since June 10.....seems they have been bogged down or turned tail and ran from the face of the terrorists....but with the recent support of US advisors, and under the cover of US and coalition air support they have retaken the town of Baiji and perhaps the refinery located there.....many remember all too vividly just how easily things fell just a few months ago.....be careful of biting the hand that trains.

Aajl..ozyr oil: energy legislation in the series will be presented to Parliament and the other pulled a modified

A very short article that could prove interesting as further details unfold from it.....what type of legislative effort with oil are they referring to here...the HCL....what are they suggesting has been pulled....to be modified....the old HCL maybe....this is worthy of attention.

Ghaban: Interior on the verge of a new phase requires upgrading the efficiency of its employees

Yet another interesting article that IMO.....indicates PM Abadi's push and desire to drive corruption out of his country....I have to hand it to him to stick to his guns on this effort.....attempting to improve employee efficiency in the area of intelligence within the country is remarkable.....these new plans are being implemented as we read this and support is being solicited from many Iraqi tribes....this could be an interesting point to watch in the future.

Albjara: Parliament is moving to approve the oil laws, parties and the Federal

This article should catch your eye and maybe even raise an eyebrow or two......you find some intriguing words in here for Iraq..."speed"...."moving"...."sustainability"....."schedule".....all terms that were seldom if ever found in the Maliki government....I have to give credit to Abadi and his government....they are making the right noise and appear to be headed in the right direction with their attempts to right much of the wrong that Iraq found itself in prior to the 2014 elections....if they can pull of the oil and gas laws....what a HUGE success they will have presented to the Iraqi people and the world.

Citizen: No legislative holiday for parliament until the adoption of the budget

Well not until the last paragraph is there any hint of which budget they might be referring to here.....the 2014 or the 2015 budget.....I'm leaning towards the 2014.....but why such a stress for it...why now...it's been an utter failure for Iraq.

Parliament urges the government to speed up the enactment of laws, notably the 10 parties, oil and gas

So let's push aside the riffraff and get to the meat and potatoes laws that we all know needs our attention....what is hanging out there that desperately needs and requires our attention.....Parliament is urging the GOI to "speed" (there is that unusual word again)....and get some constructive and proactive things done....the article tho really makes it unclear....is the Parliament pushing the COM or is the COM urging the Parliament for speed.

Oil Minister: Barzani will visit Baghdad to advance the application of what has been agreed upon

Barzani is being looked at to further the agreements that were made between Erbil and Baghdad this week.....however they use the term "soon" and that could leave you scratching your head.....is that before or after Thanksgiving....or as late as Christmas....or a novel idea...maybe this week.....one thing is for certain....this effort with oil and gas can and will have a domino affect on many of Iraq's other industries.....some resolution here could see powerful movement in other industry sectors as well and would only help to bolster their economy and state of things for all Iraqis.

Abadi confirms intention to reset problems with Arbil

PM Abadi is hailing the positive interactions not only with Erbil but also with other Iraqi leaders and tribesmen around the country.....as points to a recent meeting between Abadi and al-Hakim of the Islamic Supreme Council.....there are interactions taking place today that would have been unheard of just 6 months ago....these are positive and proactive steps being taken to turn around a country ravaged by terrorist cells that attempted to totally disrupt any sense of progress for them at all....we continue to see a growing effort towards anti-corruption that is leading to unprecedented cooperation between political blocs and parties....a reuniting of Iraq that has long been absent....even a reconnection between the government and the religious leaders of the country.

Iraq to Make Changes in Oil and Gas Law

Tricky heading here, that really only points to the coming of Barzani to Baghdad to further the talks pertaining to oil and gas issues.....but this remains an exciting topic for the Iraqis in the coming week or weeks....this can only lead to great success for them.

SOMO to Handle Kurdish Oil Affairs

In my strongest opinion....what we are seeing here is political white-washing between Baghdad and Erbil.....Baghdad has to know and realize that the Kurds have a great thing going with their pipeline to Ceyhan, Turkey.....they have proven since May they can freely move oil to the coast port and sell it as well.....the introduction of SOMO into the picture shouldn't really change things....sure 150,000 barrels of oil per day are going to be turned over to them to sell....but think about this....where else could SOMO sell it beside the pipeline to Ceyhan....any other destination would only add uncertainty to its delivery and higher transportation costs.....Baghdad isn't stupid these days.....watch how this all transpires.

Ok, I am going to take a break here....suffice it to say that today's news is full of oil and gas information yet again....I still see all of this as extremely positive for all of Iraq and the world in general.
