Backed by billionaires Bloomberg and Gates, I-594 will do nothing to stop crime but will end up criminalizing legal gun owners.
Its supporters want to bring this to your state:
Such groups as the Center for American Progress and Everytown for Gun Safety, founded by ex-New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, touted the I-594 victory as a model for other states and evidence that the Gun Lobby isn’t as lethal as it is cracked up to be.
Gun rights defenders were apprehensive. “It is no secret that Washington was a Petri dish (for other states),” said Dave Workman, a pro-gun rights journalist in the Seattle area. He noted that about half of America’s states allow citizens — or well-financed interests — to bring initiatives and referendums to the ballot.
“Activists in those states have been waiting for Bloomberg and his group coming over the horizon,” Workman said.
